Ahichhatra - A Glorious Past

Ahichhatra is said to be the capital of North Panchal during  Mahabharat  period. Dronacharya  was the ruler. There is a fort of that ancient period. A number of jain images & scriptures has been found during excavations in these places .Many jain rulers ruled this region. One king Vasupal had constructed a beautiful temple called "Sahrsa kut chitalaya" in which the image of Bhagwan Parsvanath of the height of 9 hath (hands) was installed

It is also believed that during the regime of king Avanipal "Acharaya Patra kesari" got his doubts (questions) cleared (answered) by a written reply on the "fun mandal" (upper part) of Padmavatimataji in the temple of village which exists even today.

This supernatural incident impressed patra kesari .He adopted jain values. He became famous jain monk as His Holiness 108 Sri Vidyanandji who later on composed 8000 shloks .In the near by village there is a very old. temple .The image of the Bhagwan Parsvanath carries a number of legends The "fun" is detached from the image and the image appears in different shades in different time.

Ahichhatra Parsvanath - A Divine Place

Ahichhatra has become a holy place (Kalyanak Kshetra) because of happening of two Kalyanaks viz. Tap kalyanak (penance) & Gyan kalyanak (complete knowledge)of Bhagwan parsvanath.

Terror & Tumult By Sambar Dev

History bears the testimony of fact that when Bhagwan Parsvnath was sitting in meditation (during muni stage),One Sambar dev while moving in his viman tried to cross over the head of parsvnath.Sambar was surprised to see that his viman stopped there . Sambar with his special knowledge (vibhawadhi gyan) recollected the past and recalled that his "viman" cold not move due to the power of his enemy Parsvnath .Sambar became furious &angry & began to do all mischievous activities to oppress muni parsvnath. It started rainning cats and dogs .There was violent whirl wind .He adopted all other malpractices to create terror. Everything was in ransom. During this period of turmoil & tumult a mild tremor occured in the "Ashan" (sitting place of God ) of Dharnandra and padmavatidevi . They immediately visualized the whole episode with their special knowledge. They landed at Ahichhatra and safeguarded "His Holiness muni parsvnath" from disturbance & disorder created by Sambar. In the mean time, muni parsvnath attend kewalgyan and every thing came to order .It may be noted here that after attainment of kevalgyan of complete knowledge one becomes God & no power on earth can do any harm or mischief to Arahant. Sambar also came to senses and achieved samyagdarshan. In addition to Samber, this 700 disciples of Mahipal taapas have also adopted jaineshwari diksha . The word Ahichhatra has special meaning :- Ahi means "serp" - serpent & Chhatra means "covering". Actually it symbolizes the covering (Chhatra) provided by Dharnandra & Padmavatimataji to Parsvnath ( during muni stage). Godly Celebration of Tap & Gyan Kalyanak, divine appearance of Dharnandra and Padmavatimataji and saintly of patra keshari have made Ahichhatra Parsavnath a holy, heavenly and humane place.

The Temple - A place of legends

These temple has an old history. But it remained in depleted condition till 1975. The renovation of the temple took place. A panchkalyanak celebration was performed in 1978 in the holy presence of Acharya Vimal sagarji (with sangh) ,Acharya Kunth sagarji (with sangh), Acharya Santi sagarji. There is a legend here that a pair of serpents visits this holy place of Bhagwan parsvnath & goes back without harming anyone. People also here the sound of the bell in the midnight sometimes. This supernatural happening gives credence to belief that some God & Goddess visit these temple to pay respect to this image of 1008 Bhagwan Parsvnath.
